We thoroughly enjoyed meeting our three scholarship recipients at our annual scholarship dinner on June 14th.  They impressed us in their applications and even more so in person.  All of the universities they will attend have Circle K clubs so we, of course, recommended that they join them.

news image

On June 9, the Kiwanis Club of Lombard joined several Kiwanis Clubs and Key Clubs at Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago for a phenomenal day volunteering with the Go Baby Go program, which builds modified ride-on cars for children who have limited mobility. After just a few hours, 14 toddlers went home with customized toy mini-BMWs, which are the first step for these youngsters learning how to work with assisted mobility equipment and developing a sense of being independent.

The cars are specially adapted to accommodate a child’s mobility needs. There are large buttons to stop and start the cars, special emergency shutoff switches and harnesses, and other devices are added...

Trauma Teddies - 03/23/2018
news image

What A wonderful event.  The Lombardian even highlighted it.  Here is the story that appeared on March 22nd:

Imagine as a small child, ill or injured, being whisked off in an ambulance, surrounded by tubes and other scary equipment, while grown-ups in dark clothing are poking and prodding.
That's enough to cause trauma in just about anyone, let alone a child, so the Lombard Fire Department has come up with a way to help ease children's fears and give them something else to think about.
That's where the Trauma Teddy program kicks in; teddy bears handed out that help soothe and distract children while they are being treated in an ambulance and/or being taken to a hospital.

Great Presentation on CASA - 03/17/2018
news image

This week we heard about CASA.  Did you know that nearly 700,000 children experience abuse or neglect each year. Instead of playing with neighbors and making happy family memories, they’re attending court hearings, adjusting to new foster homes and transitioning to new schools. That’s a heavy burden for a child to carry. With a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) or guardian ad litem (GAL) volunteer dedicated to their case, America’s most vulnerable children will have someone speaking up for their best interests. With your support, more children will have the opportunity to thrive in a safe and loving home.

Division 9 LTG Visits Club - 02/22/2018

This month our club was honored to be visited by Division 9 LTG Phil Hartwig.  The members enjoyed his review of the history of Kiwanis and many were surprised to learn how long it took Kiwanis to acccept women as full-fledged members.  We re glad they did because if not, we would not have our fantastic president, Carole, who does an excellent job guiding our group.
